MCP apps

Connect an assistant

Add an Origami app to ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code or Claude Desktop with its MCP URL.

ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Choose Create app, give it the company's name and paste the app's MCP URL. Set authentication to No authentication.
  3. In a new chat, add the app from the + menu and ask about the company's plans.

Developer mode is for testing. Listing the app in ChatGPT's app directory, so every user can find it, goes through OpenAI's review; we handle that submission for customers.

Claude

  1. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
  2. Give it the company's name and paste the MCP URL.
  3. Turn the connector on in a chat from the tools menu.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http acme https://<your-origami-host>/mcp/acme-com

Claude Desktop

Claude Desktop connects to hosted apps the same way as Claude, through Settings → Connectors. To run an app locally instead, see Run locally.

Troubleshooting

  • The assistant can't reach the app. ChatGPT and Claude need a public HTTPS address. A localhost URL only works from Claude Code on the same machine.
  • The tools appear but the card doesn't. Start a new chat after adding the app; assistants load widgets when a conversation starts.
  • Answers look out of date. The app reflects the site when it was last read. Ask us to rebuild it after big site changes.
